Creative Yard Decor Options for Tiny Outdoor Spaces
If your outdoor space consists of a small patio or deck, this doesn’t mean that you can’t play up your exterior areas with clever outdoor options. Not having a big yard (or any yard!) isn’t a reason to give up on your outdoor space completely. Here are four small-space options that can make even the tiniest outdoor areas look well-landscaped.
1. Hanging Planters
If you don’t have much space on the ground when it comes to your outdoor space, you can still incorporated lush greenery into your space with hanging planters. Hanging pots can be on poles or mounted to fences or walls. Another great way to tier pots is utilizing a ladder that plants can be placed on and hung from for nice plant display up off your patio or deck.
2. Wall Herb Garden
If you want a garden option in your smaller outdoor space but don’t really have the space, an herb garden might be a great option. Smaller herbs take up less space, and an herb garden can even go vertical on an exterior wall or fence. By putting together a grid with lattice connected to plywood, you can nestle small herb planters in between lattice and then hang this vertically on your fence or wall.
3. Movable Pots for More Diversity
If you have plants that might be a bit temperamental, they might not do well in just one spot in an overly shady or sunny patio. If you can incorporate movable pots with wheels attached, you can easily move plants to certain spots on your patio throughout the day as needed for sun or shade. Movable pots can help with watering and will help with bringing plants into more sheltered spaces during the winter months as well.
4. Non-Plant Decor
Once you have your plant maintenance plan down for a small outdoor space, make sure you also maximize your non-plant decor in a smaller space. If you have a balcony or patio with a cement ground, interlocking wooden tiles can be placed on top of this for more of a deck feel when it comes to flooring. Stone wall hangings and fountains can incorporate ornamental touches in your space without taking up a lot of room.
Living in a home with a small outdoor space can be a challenge, but with a little creativity, you can still achieve some of your outdoor space goals. By using your space wisely and picking items carefully, you can have a great looking yard that can be enjoyable throughout the year.
